Brazil Builds New Statue of Jesus That's Even Higher Than Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer, which has overlooked Rio de Janeiro for 90 years this year, will soon be second in line for the title of tallest statue of Christ in the world. That’s because construction of a second monument to Christ, spanning even higher, is currently underway. The Christ the Redeemer statue measures 125 feet tall, with its pedestal included, and spans 92 feet hand to hand. The new statue, Christ the Protector, will stand 140 feet tall, with an arm span of 118 feet. The project, set to cost around $350,000, is being coordinated by the Association of the Friends of Christ and is intended to encourage tourism to the city of Encantado, and inspire faith.
