Couple Who Bought a Home Over a Year Ago Can’t Move in Because the Former Owner Refuses to Leave

On January 31, 2020, Tracie and Myles Albert purchased a beautiful four-bedroom home in Riverside, California, but over a year later they're still unable to move in. That's because the former owner refuses to leave and is protected under a California moratorium that prevents evictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The seller specified an asking price of $560,000 with a cash closing in two weeks. The Alberts were forced to withdraw their entire life savings and take out a loan to close the deal. Although the Alberts have tried appealing to the authorities, there's nothing they can do because the moratorium has been extended until June 30. To make matters worse, because the seller no longer owns the property, he's lost all interest in maintaining the property, and he won’t allow the new owners to do it either.
