Mother Encourages Her 2-Year-Old To Embrace Her Uniqueness

Mayah Aziz came into this world with a unique feature — a white streak in her hair. While doctors and nurses were shocked, her mother, Talyta Aziz, was not. That’s because she, too, has a white streak in her hair due to a genetic condition called piebaldism. Talyta says she never imagined she would get pregnant at 40, but was thrilled when she found out. She and her husband lived in Australia at the time, but decided to move back to Brazil to share the excitement of their first child with their families. When Mayah was finally born on Nov. 20, 2018 and Talyta saw the familial white street in her otherwise black hair, she knew what she had to do. Explaining that she had been bullied when she was a child because of her different look, Talyta determined to raise her daughter to respect people despite their differences and to teach her to embrace her beautiful and unique feature.
