The Most Dangerous Animal in the World

In 1963, the New York Zoo offered an exhibit in the Great Apes House called “The Most Dangerous Animal in the World.” Visitors were looking to see which animal was going to claim the title, but what they found was a compartment with bars and a mirror. The caption read: “You are looking at the most dangerous animal in the world. It alone of all the animals that ever lived can exterminate (and has) entire species of animals. Now it has the power to wipe out all life on earth.” The exhibit’s goal was to encourage the conservation of wildlife and lessen humanity’s consistent deforestation and destruction of the natural habitats of animals we admire.
