What's New In the World Of Food?

Unless you’re a foodie, you happen to work in the food industry, or you're glued to the television 24/7, you may not be aware of some of the unusual happenings in the food world lately. Just to keep you up to date, here are some of the food stories that are making headlines this week. There’s likely something for everyone here, whether it’s the love of a good brew or the desire to keep up with snack trends.

Taco Bell is officially retiring its Mexican Pizza. The reasoning behind letting go of the Mexican Pizza is, surprisingly, environmental. Packaging for the taco-pizza hybrid amounts to over 7 million pounds of paperboard material per year in the US, according to Taco Bell, so getting rid of the Mexican Pizza will help the chain use less packaging overall.

Dunkin’ Donuts has partnered with Harpoon Brewery to create a line of Dunkin' Coffee Porter that you can buy in stores. The donut-infused beer comes in Spiced Latte Ale (beer and pumpkin), Creamy Irish Stout (beer and Boston Kreme donut), and Hazy IPA (beer and Dunkin’ jelly donut).

Starting this winter, Reese's will begin selling packages that contain Reese's Snack Cakes. These aren't the same as a filled cake like Twinkies. These cakes consist of a chocolate cake base and a peanut butter creme on top, with the entire thing enrobed in chocolate. You can pick up a 2-pack of the cakes for just $1.99 at any convenience store.
