Australia Is Offering a Paid Position To Live On a Tropical Island

Conservation officials in Australia announced that they are seeking someone to take a full-time caretaker job living on a tropical island surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef. The caretaker will live on the isolated tropical island of Low Isles, which is about 9 miles off the coast of Port Douglas in Queensland. Applicants are warned, however, that maintaining an island is hard work. Duties will include maintaining buildings and infrastructure — including the solar power system and sewerage treatment system — coordinating with tourist operators, cleaning toilets, managing weeds, performing grounds works and counting bird populations. Application documents are available on the Australian Government’s AusTender website. Applications must be submitted before 3 p.m. on by Friday, Sept. 25, 2020.
