The World’s Largest Retail Store Took the Title From Macy’s

Macy’s Department Store at Herald Square in New York City held the title of world’s largest retail store until 2009, when Shinsegae Centum City Department Store in Busan, South Korea, took it. With 3.16 million square feet in one retail location, Shinsegae’s flagship store now holds the title. Shinsegae Centum City is more like a mall than just a normal retail store. In addition to the usual men's, women's, and children's apparel, shoes, and accessories, features of the Shinsegae Centum City Department Store include a bank, cell phones, medical clinics (dental, dermatology, etc.), dry cleaners, electronics, a flower shop, golf driving range, ice skating rink, and the list goes on. Not only is Shinsegae Centum the largest retail store, but it’s South Korea’s first department store, the first retailer in South Korea to accept credit cards, and the first South Korean department store to sign partnerships with foreign brands.
