Everybody Wins When the National Spelling Bee Runs Out Of Words

On May 31, 2019, National Spelling Bee history was made. Starting with 562 contestants, questions were asked and people were eliminated as the group was whittled down. The final eight contestants competed during a suspenseful 20 rounds of head-to-head competition, spelling all of the given words without one error. In the end, officials ran out of words and had to make an on-the-fly decision. It was decided that there would be eight co-winners, and each one would walk away with the full cash prize of $50,000 and a piece of the 2019 title. Each contestant also received their own trophy to commemorate the win. The group made history by becoming the first group to share the win in the 92 years of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
