13-Year-Old Finishes College With 4 Degrees

When Jack Rico was in the third grade, his mother, Ru, couldn’t help but notice he was particularly intelligent. Elementary school just wasn’t providing him with enough challenges, and it seemed like Jack was absorbing information at a quick pace and was ready to grasp even more. Ru decided to start homeschooling her son, and that’s when he really began to thrive. By the time he was 11, Jack had exceeded every high school standard of academics. Thanks to his natural gifts, tons of hard work and lots and lots of studying, Jack never received a grade lower than an A. With the pandemic raging on, middle-school aged students like Jack are having to celebrate their graduations at home. Jack celebrated on a stage that was set up on the front yard of his home, but he wasn’t graduating from middle school. At 13 years old, he became the youngest student to ever graduate from Fullerton College in California — with four Associate’s Degrees. The teen plans to continue his education in the fall at the University of Nevada, which has given him a full scholarship. “I’m 13, so I don’t want to rush everything,” said Jack. “I’m still trying to figure it out, but I just want to focus on learning right now. That’s what I love to do.”
